Master of Arts (with Merit) in Urban Environmental Design

Created the winning design for the development of the Neighbourhood IIII Co-Housing Design competition which was presented to conferees at the East Coast Cohousing Conference in Newtown, Pennsylvania on November 20-22, 1998.
Courses taken include: Urban Analysis and Design Resolution, Sustainability: Form & Process, and Sustainable Tourism, as well as self-led acquisition and presentation of the use of Adobe PhotoShop 4 for Urban Design proposals. Course work produced was very well received by lecturers and used as an example for other students.

WORK & LIFE EXPERIENCE

August, 1999 - York Sustainable Development Ltd.
Worked as part of a professional team on a consultant basis. Prepared submission document for a high profile Masterplanning competion in the city of York, to create a new village of 500 homes. Was responsible for creating all aspects of the finished document which was favourably received by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and York City Council, placing in the top fifteen of over seventy applications.

1997 - The York Environment Centre Trust
Was a member of the YECT steering group whose aim was to “promote, develop, and arrange funding for the creation of a Sustainable Environment Centre in the city of York”. Remained actively involved throughout the brief history of the Trust, the accomplishments of which included identifying and negotiating a site for the Environment Centre, and submitting a successful bid for funding to the UK National Lotteries Charities Board. Awarded £288,000 (approximately $460,800 US), construction of the Centre began in November, 1999 and will be complete in March, 2000.

1995 - 1996
Realized the ambition of travelling around the world.  Travelled extensively in the countries of India, Nepal, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and America, as well as visiting Indonesia, Fiji and Hawaii. Previous travels also include North Africa and most of Europe.

1994 - 1995
Self-employed Craftsman, Nether Farm Pottery, Cawood, Nr. Selby, North Yorkshire
Worked as a self-employed artist/craftsman, producing decorative, domestic and architectural ceramics, in Raku, Salt-glaze and Reduction Stoneware.  Personally responsible for all  aspects of the business, including formulation and maintenance of a working business plan, book-keeping and accounts, production and sales of ceramics, as well as sourcing of selling outlets and venues.

June 17th, 1998 - Urban Design Conference: People First
Conference held under the banner of the Urban Design Alliance and promoted as part of the Royal Town Planning Institute’s 1998 Yorkshire Conference Series. Focus on community participation in the process of design and redevelopment.
November 15th, 1997 - Leeds Urban Design Workshop: “Pride in the City”
Acted as student facilitator for a workshop group comprised of both students and practising professionals.
November 9th, 1996 - Leeds Urban Design Workshop
Prepared workshop materials for use in this interdisciplinary forum exploring design opportunities within the city of Leeds.
September 1996 - May 1997 - City & Guilds Computer Graphics Training Course, York College, York
October-December 1989 - Business Enterprise Programme, Harrogate
Business course with focus on self-employment, covering Selling & Promotion, Marketing, Costing & Pricing, Raising Finance, Cash Flow Forecasting and Business Planning & Control.

Computer Literacy

Adobe PhotoShop 4.0, PageMaker 6.5, MS PowerPoint, MS Word 7.0, MS Windows 95, Netscape Navigator. Primarily working with PCs, but also confident with Macintosh systems.
Touch typing of 40 words per minute.

Languages

Fluent in Swedish, conversant in Norwegian. I have also studied German, Spanish and Mandarin, establishing the ability to acquire these quickly if necessary.
